The Global Positioning system is a group of 24 to 32 satellites that transmit radiowave signals. The satellites are currently ran by the United States Airforce, but were originally developed by the United States Department of Defense. The satellite constellation can be used by anyone who has a gps device. It is free and can be used anywhere.
Since becoming available to the public on April 27, 1995, the system has seem widespread use from the origins of massive gps devices to the modern day hand-held cell phones that have gps as just one of hundreds of features. Bill Clinton was the one who recognized (formally) the amazing potential benefits that widespread GPS use could have.
The technology behind the entire GPS system is endless, and the future seems to get brighter each day. I will updae this blog with new information and thoughts that I have on both GPS and also other location devices. My main focus will be on how these technologies effect our every day life.
